Nine lives at once! Cat survives incredible 14-story fall from Manhattan apartment building

Talk about having nine lives.
Copper, a nine-year-old cat, survived a 14-story fall from her owners' New York City apartment building.
When Angela Lang and her family moved into the Upper West Side apartment last month, they didn't think Copper would be able to slip out of the building through the windows, which don't open very wide.

Copper fell 14 stories and survived
As it turns out, they were wrong. Somehow, the feisty feline managed to slip out onto a ledge, where she fell 14 stories to the street below, according to MyFoxNY.
The Langs said they hurried the cat to a local veterinary hospital but that amazingly, their tenacious pet not only survived the death-defying plunge but managed to limp away with only a fractured foot.

While the phrase 'raining cats and dogs,' might be hyperbole, animal experts say the free-falling behaviour, for cats at least, is rather common.

According to the ASPCA, most cats who fall survive, as long as they receive immediate medical attention
As MyFoxNY notes, the American Society for the Protection and Care of Animals, or the ASPCA, says cats are especially prone to falling out of windows as they chase after birds and insects, a phenomenon the organization calls High-Rise Syndrome.
In the summer months, when windows are often left open, veterinarians at the Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital in New York say they sometimes see up to 5 cases a week, according to the ASPCA website.
The group says cats who receive medical attention immediately have a 90 percent chance of surviving a fall.
