Hire me! College grad resorts to wearing giant sandwich board in desperate search for a job

With unemployment at its highest level in 18 years, sometimes job seekers have to go that little bit further to get themselves noticed.
But few would go quite as far as college graduate Alisha Madkins, who was so fed up with jobhunting she turned herself into a giant advert.
Sporting a sandwich board reading 'hire me!', Miss Madkins spent hours walking around Boston city centre hoping someone would offer her a job.

She said she has spent hours online applying for jobs in public relations, but has had no offers.
So, exasperated, she finally decided to take some self-promotion tips from an unlikely source - a homeless man.

Miss Madkins told Channel 7: 'I was walking by a homeless person... and they said, "Will work for food"'.
'And I'm thinking, "I am not homeless and I will work for work." I will do anything.'

'I can put on a sign, I can stand on the corner of a street.'
So she made herself a sandwich board saying 'hire me!' on one side and 'college grad' on the other.
Then, smartly dressed and with a hopeful smile, she headed to Copley Square yesterday in search of potential employers.
She said: 'I'm not ashamed. People call it desperation, I call it determination.'

Unemployment in the U.S. currently stands at 9.1 per cent, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics.
It means there are at least four job seekers applying for every vacancy, and competition for graduate jobs is tougher than it's been in decades.
But it seems Miss Madkins's ingenuity may have paid off - she said she was offered two jobs on Wednesday alone.
